This is a native North American perennial lupine plant that has been declining in number since the Industrial Revolution. Easy to grow for the gardener, pollinators flock to it, and it is an important food source for Frosted Elfin and Karner Blue butterfly caterpillars. The decline in number of plants in the US due to loss of habitat is thought to have contributed to the decline in the number of the Karner Blue Butterfly.

Also called the sundial lupine, this plant is currently threatened in Iowa, Maryland, and New Hampshire. It is endangered in Vermont and Maine. If you garden in any of these areas, plant some soon, get to know them, and then spread the word! If you have friends that garden in these areas, let them know about these little gems.

Germination instructions are included with your seeds. These are pretty easy to germinate.
