Also called torch lilies, these perennials are beloved by gardeners across the country for their hardiness. Their tough evergreen leaves can withstand just about anything, and their blooms really pack a punch when they appear midsummer. They are often also considered a mid-century modern plant since they offer that minimalist look to those gardeners who live in less arid climates in other areas of the country who are unable to grow striking cacti, succulents, or aloes year-round.
Our poker plants are planted in the hell strip between the street that we live on and the city sidewalk. This area is given virtually no water all summer so these do qualify as xeriscaping plants. I grew the parent plants in the photos from seed a few years ago, and due to an errant passerby, I was unable to collect the little seedpods last year. I was proactive, protective, and present this year in my front yard enough so as to prevent such a catastrophe from occurring again.
Colors should come mixed and you can expect blooms in the second year. By that point, they begin to grow quickly.
Germination instructions are included with your seeds. These are easy to germinate and grow. (60 seeds)
