Glaucium flavum var. aurantiacum—Orange Horned Poppy Seeds

This is not a poppy as you'd commonly think of one. It's in the Papaveraceae family though so that's where it gets its common names: Sea Poppy or Horned Poppy.

The foliage on this plant is tough. Additionally, it's nearly drought tolerant and will provide blooms throughout the summer. I can't imagine better qualities in a plant. The glaucous ruffled edges of the plants are nearly evergreen too in my climate. That certainly adds winter interest.

I've read this is a short-lived perennial but I'm keeping mine around by continual propagation. If you don't collect the seeds (as I do) I suspect you'll find a few volunteers here and there. This is something I'd encourage. This plant is really one of my favorites.

If you're looking for low water plants, this is a great option.

Germination instructions are included with your seeds. They will need to be stratified, and this may be a little bit difficult, but with some practice and patience, you should have success. (about 30 seeds)

Basic Tree Facts:

Glaucium flavum var. aurantiacum

Grows 18" x 18"

Likes sun
