Deinostigma tamiana (form. Chirita tamiana, Primulina tamiana)—Vietnamese Violet Seeds
This was one of the first gesneriads I grew after becoming acquainted with our local chapter, long before I was its president. Even now, all these years later, and after having stepped down from that post, I still have several plants that bloom off-and-on year round.
Simple to grow from seed, just surface sow and keep moist. One you’ve pricked them out and grown them on, they can be grown in a terrarium environment or in the normal home conditions so long as it’s not too hot and dry. Originally collected in Vietnam, you can read more about the plant here: Gesneriad Society: Deinostigma tamiana
Once you have plants, you can share leaves and propagate them the way you’d propagate African violets. This is a great plant to give as a gift too.
Germination instructions are included with your seeds. These are easy to grow. (at least 20 seeds unless you’re ordering the larger quantity )
Basic Plant Facts:
Chirita tamiana
Grows 2-3” x varies when in bloom
Likes sun to light shade
houseplant, indoor plant
