Asclepias speciosa—Showy Milkweed Seeds

from $4.00

Asclepias blooms are important nectar sources for pollinators such as: hummingbirds, butterflies, honey bees, and native bees. All milkweeds are important and wonderful plants that add an important diversity to plantings. (Currently, these are the only milkweed seeds I offer. I hope to offer more next season.)

Showy Milkweed is a food for the larval stages of Monarch butterflies and it offers them important habitat.

Since Showy Milkweed becomes rhizomatous as it matures it can become aggressive so it is not suitable for small landscape plantings. In a city garden, a more natural planting area replicating a small meadow is ideal.

Germination instructions are included with your seeds. They will need to be stratified, and this may be a little bit difficult, but with some practice and patience, you should have success. (about 30 seeds)

Asclepias speciosa

Grows 36" x 24-36"
